“It’s All About Focus: In the Mind, Body and Voice”

Saturday Seminar with Zehava Gal

April 14, 2012

Learn to improve your focus, sustain attention and increase motivation so that new skills become good habits.  This interactive seminar will introduce a practical approach to improving the performer’s awareness, moment to moment, in order to liberate the voice as a channel of musical expression.  We will work towards creating a seamless, natural performance, since the lack of focus is the primary obstacle to creative musicality and executing a perfect legato line.  Develop means to avoid physical and mental stress as it manifests itself in three major areas important to singers; the throat, chest and abdomen.

Other points to be discussed:

  1. Developing a sense of self in the body and space.

  2. Achieving vocal efficiency that enhances tone quality, agility and dynamic variation.

  3. Understanding the inner focus of a musical line and its relationship to the body.

  4. Managing performance anxiety by focusing on the necessary.

This class is open to professional and young singers, students, conductors, teachers, and observers, and is free for Westminster Choir College student. Performers registering to sing should email Ms. Gal directly to z@voicebygal.com at least three (3) weeks prior to the seminar. Your choices can be out of the Opera, Oratorio and Art Song standard repertoire.
